technology for a circular model

Stemin is today one of the European leaders in the production of Ingots & RSI (Remelted Secondary Ingots), in secondary and semi-primary alloys.
Within FECS Group, which has a total production capacity of 100,000 tonnes per year, Stemin stands out for its integrated industrial model, combining direct ownership of secondary raw materials, innovative smelting processes and high value-added production flexibility.

The alloy production process relies on two highly efficient smelting lines, one of which is based on a proprietary IT/EU patent. This patented technology enables the direct melting of metal turnings from industrial scrap without the use of sodium chloride, significantly minimising the environmental impact of the entire process.

The raw material used in smelting is supplied by the company’s internal division specialised in metal waste recovery and valorisation, ensuring continuous supply, full traceability and controlled metallurgical quality.

Energy sustainability: a concrete commitment to responsible production

The entire smelting cycle is powered by oxy-combustion through a dedicated oxygen pipeline, completely replacing the need for road transport via tankers. This ensures greater operational safety, supply continuity and energy autonomy.

The use of oxygen reduces methane consumption and, as a result, direct atmospheric emissions, improving the overall energy efficiency of the process.

As part of its environmental sustainability strategy, the company operates a photovoltaic system that supplies around 60% of the site’s total electricity demand through self-generation.
This significantly reduces indirect emissions and makes a tangible contribution towards achieving decarbonisation goals.

Custom production and certified carbon footprint

Stemin supplies secondary and semi-primary alloys with customised compositions, developed according to the client’s technical specifications and application requirements. Direct access to raw materials allows for flexible and prompt handling of custom orders, while ensuring consistent quality and maximum reliability.

Each alloy can be provided with a Carbon Footprint Declaration, calculated using a Systematic Approach (SA) model in accordance with ISO 14067:2018 and certified by Bureau Veritas Italia S.p.A. This system enables clients to integrate the materials into sustainable supply chains, aligned with ESG criteria and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodologies.

Traceability, compliance and visibility on international markets

All semi-finished products manufactured by Stemin comply with ROHS, REACH and Conflict Minerals regulations. Material traceability is ensured through the International Material Data System (IMDS), widely adopted in regulated and technically complex sectors.

To ensure transparent and reliable supply conditions, even over medium to long-term horizons, Stemin has, since 2012, registered the FECS Group brand with leading commodity exchanges: the London Metal Exchange, the NASAAC Index (North American Special Aluminium Alloy Contract) and the Shanghai Stock Exchange — making it one of the first European producers in the sector to adopt this approach.
